Book Release: Helping Patients Outsmart Overeating: Psychological Strategies for Doctors and Health Care Providers and Discount Code!

I am delighted to report that my new book, Helping Patients Outsmart Overeating: Psychological Strategies for Doctors and Health Care Providers, was released this week. The book is co-authored with eating disorders therapist, 7-book author, and eating psychology expert Karen R. Koenig, LCSW, M.Ed. Eating psychology is about the “how” and “why” of eating, rather than the “what,” and it helps us to understand the patterns of thought, emotion and belief that cause some of us to restrict calories, overeat, or alternate between dietary deprivation and mindless over-consumption. It is these patterns that often underlie what we ultimately recognize as weight gain, weight struggles and metabolic dysfunction. Understanding and addressing these patterns is an important step in healing overeating, chronic dieting, and weight cycling, and Helping Patients Outsmart Overeating seeks to help doctors, health care professionals and patients do exactly that.

So, this book, unlike most “diet books,” is not about what to eat. You will not find a weight-loss diet plan or a detox or a collection of fat-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, carb-free recipes. Instead, you will learn how to build a solid foundation for training your mind, treating your body with kindness, and enjoying the pleasures of food in a way that serves your health long-term. The (learnable) skills that we focus on in the book can have the added benefit of spilling over into other areas of our lives and setting us up for improved health outcomes, relationships, and life satisfaction. It’s about feeding the mind to help care for the body and, in the process, elevate your life.

If you are a doctor or health care professional, this book is intended to help you understand why patients overeat (or don’t follow your “diet and exercise” recommendations), and how to care for them most effectively. If you are a layperson, it is intended to provide support and guidance for how to optimize your interactions with your doctor on this topic. Members of this community (and your friends and colleagues) will receive a 30% discount when purchasing this book.
